Workplace Korean: Meeting Minutes, Alignment, and Decision Language

The reader can read Korean meeting minutes and workplace notes by separating discussion, decisions, owners, deadlines, follow-up, alignment, and unresolved issues.

Core examples: 회의록; 안건; 결정사항; 공유; 조율; 담당자; 후속조치; 기한; 합의.

The problem this article solves

A Korean meeting note may say:

안건 2: 신규 기능 출시 일정 조율 결정사항: 6월 10일 베타 배포 진행 담당자: 제품팀 김대리 후속조치: QA 결과 공유 후 최종 일정 확정 기한: 5월 31일

This is not casual office Korean. It is accountability Korean. The sentence fragments decide what was only discussed, what was actually decided, who owns the next step, and when the organization expects movement.

The key principle is:

Workplace Korean in meeting minutes is not about sounding busy. It records decisions, responsibility, and next action.

Core vocabulary and system

회의록

회의록

means meeting minutes. It may contain date, attendees, agenda, discussion summary, decisions, action items, owners, deadlines, and attachments.

A learner should not read 회의록 like a transcript. It is usually a compressed record of what matters operationally.

안건

안건

means agenda item. It names what is being discussed.

Examples:

안건 1: 예산 검토

안건 2: 출시 일정 조율

안건 is not necessarily a decision. It is the topic placed before the group.

결정사항

결정사항

means decision items / decisions made.

A 회의록 may also contain 논의사항, 검토사항, 요청사항, or 참고사항. 결정사항 is the section most likely to change what people must do next.

공유

공유

means share, circulate, or make information available.

Workplace Korean uses 공유 constantly:

자료 공유 부탁드립니다.

회의 결과를 팀에 공유해 주세요.

Do not overtranslate it as emotional “sharing.” In office Korean, 공유 is information distribution.

조율

조율

means coordination/adjustment/alignment among schedules, views, departments, or conditions.

일정 조율

부서 간 조율

조건 조율

조율 often means the decision is not fully fixed yet.

담당자

담당자

means person in charge / responsible owner.

Meeting minutes without 담당자 often fail operationally. 담당자 tells who must act, not just who knows about the issue.

후속조치

후속조치

means follow-up action.

It is stronger than general discussion. It tells what must happen after the meeting.

기한

기한

means deadline.

Related words include 마감, 제출기한, 완료기한, and 일정. A task without 기한 is often not yet operationally complete.

합의

합의

means agreement/consensus.

In workplace documents, 합의 may mean parties aligned on a direction, not necessarily a signed legal agreement. Context decides.

Worked example

결정사항: 고객사 요청사항은 1차 반영하되, 추가 개발 범위는 다음 회의에서 재논의한다. 담당자는 개발팀 박과장으로 한다.

Breakdown:

고객사 요청사항은 1차 반영 first reflect the client’s request

추가 개발 범위 additional development scope

다음 회의에서 재논의 discuss again at the next meeting

담당자 owner/person in charge

Plain reading:

The team decided to reflect the client’s request in the first round, but to revisit the additional development scope at the next meeting. Manager Park from the development team is the owner.

This contains both a decision and a non-decision. 반영 is decided. 추가 범위 is deferred.

Common learner traps

  • 논의사항 is not the same as 결정사항.
  • 공유 means information circulation, not necessarily approval.
  • 조율 often signals unresolved coordination.
  • 담당자 names owner; 참석자 only names attendee.
  • 합의 may be business alignment, not a formal contract.

Reusable reading workflow

  1. Identify meeting date and attendees.
  2. List 안건.
  3. Separate 논의사항 from 결정사항.
  4. Extract 담당자 for each action item.
  5. Extract 기한.
  6. Mark 후속조치.
  7. Mark items requiring 공유 or 조율.
  8. Mark unresolved or 보류 items.
  9. Rewrite the minutes as: decision → owner → deadline → next action.

Decision-record diagnostic table

Meeting minutes should be read as an accountability artifact.

Minutes layerKorean signalsReader question
meeting identity회의명, 일시, 참석자what meeting and who was present?
agenda안건what topic was raised?
discussion논의사항, 주요 의견what was considered?
decision결정사항, 확정what was actually decided?
owner담당자, 주관부서who must act?
deadline기한, 완료일by when?
follow-up후속조치, 다음 액션what happens next?
unresolved item보류, 추가 검토, 재논의what is not decided?

A 회의록 is weak if it records talk but not decisions, owners, and deadlines.

논의 versus 결정 warning

KoreanMeaningPractical effect
논의함discussednot necessarily approved
검토하기로 함agreed to reviewinvestigation/action pending
조율 필요coordination neededunresolved dependency
합의함agreed/aligneddirection accepted
결정함decidedaction should follow
보류함deferredno current action unless specified
재논의revisitnot final

This distinction prevents learners from treating every meeting note as a decision.

Accountability rewrite test

For each action item, rewrite it as:

누가 / 무엇을 / 언제까지 / 누구에게 공유하거나 확인할 것인가?

Who will do what, by when, and to whom will they report or confirm it? If that sentence cannot be written, the minutes are incomplete or not yet understood.

A strong tool for this article would include:

  1. Agenda/decision divider..
  2. 담당자 and 기한 extractor..
  3. Action-item checklist..
  4. Discussion-versus-decision highlighter..
  5. Follow-up tracker..
  6. Plain-language meeting summary..

Final rule

Workplace Korean: Meeting Minutes, Alignment, and Decision Language is not just a vocabulary topic. It is a real-source reading problem. Read the genre, actor, status, and consequence before choosing a translation.
