The reader can understand university-related Chinese for majors, course registration, credits, transcripts, offices, and student status.

Slug: university-chinese-majors-credits-transcripts-administrative-offices Safety boundary: University procedures vary by institution. This article teaches vocabulary, not academic-policy advice.

Campus Chinese is half academic, half administrative

University Chinese includes classroom vocabulary, department names, administrative notices, digital portals, forms, transcripts, degree documents, and office labels. A learner may know 大学 and 学生 but still get lost in 教务处, 选课, 学分, 成绩单, 学籍, 培养方案, 毕业证, 学位证.

The key is to map terms onto the student lifecycle: admission, registration, course selection, study, assessment, credit accumulation, transcript, graduation, degree, and records.

Core vocabulary map

ChineseCampus functionReading cue
专业major/programAcademic field assigned to student.
学院 / 院系school/college/departmentOrganizational unit.

Offices and what they usually handle

OfficeCommon ChineseLikely domain
Academic affairs教务处Course registration, exams, transcripts, status.
Graduate school研究生院Graduate programs and graduate records.
International office国际处 / 国际交流处International students, exchange, foreign affairs.
Finance office财务处Tuition, fees, receipts.
Student affairs学生处Student management, aid, conduct, services.

Do not assume every university uses the exact same office name. 处, 办, 中心, 学院, 系 can all appear in institutional labels.

Notice grammar

University notices often use 发布, 通知, 申请, 审核, 公示, 办理, 提交, 逾期不予受理. Example:

请符合条件的学生于5月30日前登录教务系统提交转专业申请,逾期不予受理。

The action is 登录教务系统提交申请. The deadline is 5月30日前. The consequence is 逾期不予受理. 转专业 means changing major, not “transfer professional.”

Credits, grades, and documents

学分 and 成绩 are different. A student may pass a course and earn 学分; 成绩 is the grade. 绩点 is GPA-like grade point information. 培养方案 lists required courses and credit requirements. 成绩单 records performance. 毕业证 and 学位证 are not the same document: one certifies graduation, the other degree conferral.

Learner traps

专业 does not always mean “professional.” In university contexts it usually means major or program. 学院 is not always “college” in the American institutional sense; it may be a school within a university. 院系 is a broad term for schools/departments. 报到 is registration/check-in, not simply “report news.”

Practice protocol

Take a campus notice and fill six fields: issuing office, affected students, required action, platform/place, deadline, consequence. Then underline every noun that identifies a document: 成绩单, 学生证, 申请表, 证明, 培养方案.

Build a university portal map. Users click 教务处, 研究生院, 国际处, 财务处, 学生处 and see common documents, verbs, deadlines, and example notices.

Upgrade and remediation layer

University Chinese should be remediated around office routing and record vocabulary. Students and learners often know 专业, 学分, and 成绩, but get lost because university text is organized by offices and administrative workflows.

Add an office-function table:

Office/termTypical scopeReader cue
教务处undergraduate teaching administrationcourse registration, grades, exams, academic records.
研究生院graduate-student administrationgraduate admissions, training, thesis, degree processes.
国际处 / 国际交流处international affairsexchange, visas, visiting programs, foreign cooperation.
学生处student affairsstudent status, conduct, support, sometimes scholarships.
财务处finance officetuition, payment, invoices, refunds.
学院 / 院系academic unitmajor-specific requirements, notices, advisors.

Add a remediation contrast for core record terms:

TermWeak readingRepaired reading
专业“major” onlyAcademic program/field, often tied to department and degree requirements.
学分“credits”Unit accumulated toward requirements; check compulsory/elective categories.
成绩单“grade list”Formal transcript, often used for verification/application.
学籍“student identity”Official student status/record.
毕业证 / 学位证“graduation certificate / degree certificate”Distinct credentials; do not collapse them.
选课“choose course”Course-registration process with time windows, capacity, prerequisites.

Add a workflow drill:

关于2026届毕业生学位申请材料提交的通知

Ask learners to identify: target group, office, document, deadline, submission method, consequence of missing deadline, contact channel. This is more useful than translating every noun.

For the module, build a university portal map. Users click a task—request transcript, register course, pay fee, verify student record—and the interface highlights likely office names and common buttons: 提交申请, 查看详情, 下载证明, 审核中, 已通过, 退回修改.

Publication QA should account for regional/university variation. The article should not assert one national workflow for transcripts, credits, exchange programs, graduation, or student status; it should train reading of institution-specific notices.
