Fintech Chinese: 支付, 清算, 风控, 反洗钱

The reader can interpret Chinese fintech vocabulary across payments, settlement, compliance, fraud detection, and risk control.

Why this matters

Fintech Chinese turns ordinary words into technical terms. 支付 is payment, but in a fintech document it may involve acquiring, wallets, payment channels, clearing, settlement, risk-control rules, identity verification, suspicious transactions, and compliance obligations. 风控 is not just “risk control” as a vague business phrase; it often refers to systems that detect, score, block, review, or escalate transactions.

Consumer screen vs backend language

A user sees:

  • 支付成功
  • 交易失败
  • 账户冻结
  • 身份认证未通过
  • 请联系商户

A backend or compliance document may describe the same world with:

  • 交易清算
  • 商户结算周期
  • 异常交易监测
  • 可疑交易报告
  • 客户身份识别
  • 风险等级划分

The language changes because the reader changes. User copy guides behavior. Compliance prose assigns duties.

Common policy/document verbs

Verb phraseWhat it usually does
建立健全机制build and improve a mechanism/system
加强管理strengthen management
防范风险prevent/control risk
识别异常交易identify abnormal transactions
采取措施take measures
留存记录retain records
报送报告submit/report
冻结账户freeze account

These phrases are formulaic but meaningful. 建立健全 often signals institutional duty, not a one-time setup.

风控 is a system word

In casual business chat, 风控 may mean the department, the rules, the review process, or the automated model. You need context:

  • 风控拒绝了这笔交易。 — The risk-control system/team rejected this transaction.
  • 需要补充风控材料。 — Additional risk-control documents/materials are needed.
  • 触发风控规则。 — Triggered risk-control rules.
  • 风控审核中。 — Under risk-control review.

The subject may be a person, algorithm, policy, or department.

反洗钱 and 可疑交易

反洗钱 is anti-money laundering. 可疑交易 is suspicious transaction. In Chinese compliance writing, the issue is not only whether something is illegal; it may be whether an institution must identify, monitor, record, report, or restrict certain activity.

A phrase like 可疑交易报告 is a reporting genre. Do not translate it as “a report that the transaction is definitely criminal.” It indicates suspected or suspicious status under compliance rules.

Worked example

Mock paragraph: 平台应建立交易风控机制,对异常交易进行监测和识别。发现疑似欺诈、洗钱等风险的,应采取限制交易、加强身份核验、人工复核等措施,并按规定留存相关记录。

Annotation:

  • 平台应建立: platform has a duty.
  • 交易风控机制: transaction risk-control mechanism.
  • 异常交易: abnormal transactions.
  • 疑似欺诈、洗钱等风险: suspected fraud, money-laundering, and related risks.
  • 限制交易 / 加强身份核验 / 人工复核: possible measures.
  • 按规定留存记录: retain records according to rules.

Learner traps

Do not translate 清算 as “cleaning.” In finance it is clearing. Do not confuse 结算 with 结账; both involve settling, but 结账 is checkout/pay bill in everyday contexts, while 结算 is broader financial settlement. Do not read 通道 literally as a hallway; in payments it is a channel/route.

Practice drill

Give learners this platform sentence:

系统检测到异常交易,已触发风控规则,请完成实名认证后重试。

Ask them to separate user-facing action from backend process. 检测到 and 触发风控规则 describe system/risk-control behavior. 请完成实名认证后重试 tells the user what to do next. A repaired translation should not say “the user committed money laundering” merely because a risk-control rule was triggered. It should say the system detected an abnormal transaction and requires real-name verification before retrying.

Extended practice layer

Add a four-column fintech map:

User screenMerchant/back officeBackend infrastructureCompliance/risk
支付成功商户结算清算通道反洗钱监测
退款中对账交易流水号可疑交易
账户冻结结算周期支付机构实名认证
绑定银行卡商户号银行账户风险提示

The point is to show that the same event appears differently depending on who is reading.

Add a sentence pattern bank:

  • 为保障账户安全,系统已限制部分功能。
  • 根据监管要求,请完成实名认证。
  • 平台将对异常交易进行风险识别。
  • 商户结算周期以协议约定为准。
  • 涉嫌可疑交易的,机构应按规定报告。

Learners should label subject and audience. Is the text addressing a user, a merchant, a platform, or a regulated institution? That one question prevents many mistranslations.

Upgrade and remediation layer

Fintech vocabulary is difficult because everyday words acquire infrastructure and compliance meanings. 支付 feels easy. 清算, 结算, 风控, and 反洗钱 are not everyday synonyms. The article should force a layered model: user-facing action, platform process, backend settlement, and regulatory control.

Add a payment-flow vocabulary map:

LayerCore wordsWhat learners should notice
User action支付, 付款, 收款, 退款Visible app behavior
Merchant/platform商户, 订单, 通道, 钱包Commercial/platform roles
Backend finance结算, 清算, 备付金, 对账Movement and reconciliation of funds/data
Risk control风控, 异常交易, 账户冻结, 限额Monitoring and restriction language
Compliance反洗钱, 实名认证, 可疑交易, 尽职调查Regulatory vocabulary, not ordinary customer-service phrasing

Add a strong caution about 清算. Learners may translate it as “clearance” or “settlement” interchangeably. In fintech text, 支付, 结算, and 清算 often point to different stages or institutional functions. The article should not overspecify a universal definition across all systems, but it should teach readers to ask, “Is this text describing the consumer action, merchant settlement, inter-institution clearing, or regulatory reporting?”

Add a remediation example:

平台将加强交易风控,对异常交易进行识别、拦截,并按规定履行反洗钱义务。

Weak reading: “The platform controls risky transactions.” Repaired reading: “The sentence says the platform will strengthen transaction risk control, identify and intercept abnormal transactions, and perform anti-money-laundering obligations according to rules. It combines product-security language with compliance language.”

Add common formula verbs: 建立健全机制, 加强管理, 识别异常, 监测风险, 履行义务, 报送信息, 冻结账户, 解除限制. These should be presented not as conversational phrases but as institutional action verbs.

Create a payment-flow diagram from user → platform → merchant → payment channel → clearing → settlement → compliance monitoring. Let users click each node and see common Chinese terms.

Ground against People’s Bank of China payment and AML rules, payment-institution compliance documents, and banking-platform risk-warning language. Refresh terms because fintech regulation and platform copy change.
