Construction Chinese: 招标, 施工, 验收, 监理
The reader can understand construction-project vocabulary from bidding and contracting through construction, supervision, acceptance, and completion.

Why this matters
Construction Chinese is lifecycle language. A project moves through 招标, 投标, 中标, 施工, 监理, 验收, 竣工, and 移交. If you read one term in isolation, you may miss the project stage and the role of each participant.
This article gives a language map. It does not assess construction quality, compliance, or project risk.
Project lifecycle
| Stage | Chinese terms |
|---|---|
| Procurement | 招标, 投标, 标书, 中标 |
| Contracting | 合同, 分包, 工程量, 造价 |
| Design/change | 设计, 图纸, 设计变更 |
| Construction | 施工, 按图施工, 现场, 进度 |
| Supervision | 监理, 总监理工程师, 旁站 |
| Quality/safety | 质量, 安全, 整改, 复验 |
| Acceptance | 验收, 竣工验收, 分项, 分部 |
| Handover | 交付, 移交, 竣工资料 |
招标, 投标, 中标
- 招标: the buyer/project owner solicits bids.
- 投标: bidders submit bids.
- 中标: a bidder wins/is awarded.
- 标书: bid document/tender document, depending on context.
- 评审: evaluation/review.
Do not translate 中标 as “middle mark.” It means win the bid.
施工 and 监理
施工 is construction/execution of work. 监理 is supervision/engineering supervision. A sentence may say:
施工单位应按图施工,监理单位负责对工程质量、进度和安全进行监督。
This identifies two roles: construction unit performs; supervision unit supervises.
验收 and 竣工
验收 is acceptance/inspection acceptance. 竣工 means completion of construction. 竣工验收 is completion acceptance.
Common phrases:
- 验收合格 — accepted/pass inspection.
- 验收不合格 — failed acceptance.
- 整改后复验 — re-inspection after rectification.
- 竣工资料 — completion/as-built documents.
- 竣工验收报告 — completion acceptance report.
Worked project update
Mock update: 本项目主体结构已完成,施工单位已提交竣工验收申请。监理单位正在审核工程资料,并对现场整改情况进行复查。待验收合格后,项目进入移交阶段。
Annotation:
- 主体结构已完成: main structure completed.
- 施工单位: construction unit.
- 提交竣工验收申请: submitted completion-acceptance application.
- 监理单位: supervision unit.
- 审核工程资料: reviewing project documents.
- 现场整改情况: rectification status on site.
- 待验收合格后: after acceptance passes.
- 进入移交阶段: enter handover stage.
Responsibility phrases
| Phrase | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 应符合 | shall comply with |
| 负责 | responsible for |
| 按图施工 | construct according to drawings |
| 责令整改 | order rectification |
| 整改完成 | rectification completed |
| 复验 | re-inspection |
| 工程量 | quantity of work |
| 设计变更 | design change |
Learner traps
工程 can mean project, engineering works, or construction work depending on context. 监理 is not simply “monitoring”; it is a formal supervision role in construction projects. 验收 is not casual “checking.” It is acceptance under a procedure. 整改 is not mere improvement; it is correction/rectification, often after a problem is identified.
Practice drill
Give a construction sentence:
施工单位完成整改后,监理单位组织复验,复验合格后报建设单位申请竣工验收。
Ask learners to identify the order and actors. The repaired chain is: construction unit rectifies, supervision unit organizes re-inspection, if passed, matter is reported/submitted to the project owner/developer for completion acceptance. Do not call 复验 and 竣工验收 the same event; one can be a prerequisite step before the larger acceptance process.
Extended practice layer
Add a construction-document genre table.
| Document | Chinese | Reader task |
|---|---|---|
| Tender notice | 招标公告 | Who can bid, when, for what? |
| Bid document | 投标文件 | What is offered/submitted? |
| Construction plan | 施工方案 | How work will be done. |
| Supervision notice | 监理通知单 | What must be corrected. |
| Rectification reply | 整改回复 | What was fixed. |
| Acceptance report | 验收报告 | What was accepted and by whom. |
Add a role table:
| Role | Common responsibility in texts |
|---|---|
| 建设单位 | project owner/developer organization |
| 施工单位 | construction contractor |
| 设计单位 | design entity |
| 监理单位 | supervision entity |
| 勘察单位 | survey/investigation entity |
A lot of construction Chinese is role literacy. If the reader does not know who is speaking, verbs like 组织, 负责, 要求, 报送, 签署, and 验收 become mush.
Upgrade and remediation layer
Construction Chinese is lifecycle language. Learners must know which stage a document belongs to before translating individual terms. 招标, 投标, 中标, 施工, 监理, 验收, and 竣工 are not interchangeable project words; they locate the text in a sequence of obligations and evidence.
Add a construction lifecycle map:
| Stage | Terms | Main reading task |
|---|---|---|
| Procurement | 招标, 投标, 标书, 中标 | Who is soliciting/bidding/awarded? |
| Contracting | 合同, 分包, 工程量, 造价 | What scope and price are documented? |
| Design/change | 图纸, 设计变更, 技术交底 | What must be built or changed? |
| Construction | 施工, 进度, 安全, 质量 | What work is being performed? |
| Supervision | 监理, 巡检, 整改通知 | Who is supervising and what is flagged? |
| Acceptance | 验收, 竣工验收, 复验 | What must pass before handover/use? |
| Closeout | 资料归档, 保修, 移交 | What records and duties remain? |
Add a remediation example:
监理单位要求施工单位对隐蔽工程资料进行补充,并在整改完成后申请复验。
Weak reading: “The supervisor wants more hidden project information.” Repaired reading: “The supervision unit requires the construction unit to supplement concealed-work documentation and apply for reinspection after rectification is complete. 隐蔽工程 is a construction documentation category, not a secret project.”
Add a warning around 验收. It is not casual “checking.” In construction contexts, it often refers to acceptance procedures tied to quality, records, responsible parties, and handover. 竣工验收 is stage-specific and should not be flattened to “finish checking.”
Add a note on 监理. It is not simply a supervisor in the everyday workplace sense. In construction, 监理 may be a formal supervision role or organization with project responsibilities defined by documents and regulations.
Build a construction lifecycle diagram from tender to handover. Users click each stage and see common document names, roles, and verbs. Add a role-matching drill: 建设单位, 施工单位, 监理单位, 设计单位, 勘察单位.
Ground against construction-quality regulations, tendering/bidding language, completion-acceptance templates, and construction-supervision contract language.
